Sky Broadband Superfast is Sky’s core service offering great speeds at a great price. It the service that unless you want to keep costs down, you should opt for. The reason for this is because you can do everything you want to with this set-up and need not worry about your interest speeds dropping.
What is Sky Broadband Superfast?
Sky Broadband Superfast is for those who want to stream, play games and download lots of content. It’s perfect for medium to heavy users and can handle pretty everything you throw at it. The average download speed is 59Mb/s and this speed is available to 96% of UK homes. We would recommend this to those who sit and use their computers and internet as an essential part of their daily life. With Sky Broadband Superfast you can happily play games without awful lag, what TV and movies without being put on hold and download all the data you need for work and fun. Families, gamers, people who work from home and anyone whose salary depends on them being able to access the internet on a daily basis. This is the level we would recommend and actually we would advice against Superfast 35 if the above sounds like you.
What does Sky Broadband Superfast offer?
Sky broadband Superfast service, you get 59Mb/s for download speeds, 16Mb/s upload speeds and all for £28 per month. However, you will get a minimum guaranteed speed of 25Mb/s which is great if you want to be sure you can connect reliably, which is the same as Superfast 35. Sky Broadband Superfast’s 56Mb/s speed will allow you to play games, watch movies and access the internet all at the same time without affecting performance. Do you want 4K? No problem, you will be able to stream a 4K video, you’ll just need a TV powerful enough to enjoy it at it’s full potential. Sky have this covered with Sky Glass.
Who is Sky Broadband Superfast good for?
Sky Broadband Superfast is great for people working from home and need to make sure they can do their work on a powerful and clear network so they can present, share files. Another target customer would be gamers, we all hate it when our ping level is so high our character is jumping around the map. Finally families are perfect for this set-up. Parents and kids as well as their friends all accessing on phones, laptops, TVs, tablets and many other devices, Sky Broadband Superfast has the power they need to stay connected.
How much does Sky Broadband Superfast cost?
We have provided the pricing further down but currently it sits at £28 a month, this is an 18 month contract and if you sign up now you can grab it for this price. Please click through our links to make sure you get the price quoted here. There is a one-off set-up cost of £19.95. The customer support number is 0800-7591-238.
What is Installation and Customer Support like?
This is a very important subject when it comes to getting your new broadband setup. Since many people report problems trying to speak to someone when issues arise with their broadband package. Therefore we mentioned above, set-up costs are a one-off payment of £19.95 and the customer support line is 0800-7591-238. Generally the feedback we have heard is that customer support is very responsive and you won’t be sitting on hold for extended periods being passed around different departments unlike some competitors (mentioned in our other product reviews). Installation and set-up require a Sky Engineer to pop out and set it up for you. This is largely pain-free and they are very quick to do this. You will need to book an appointment. Sky are very much a “customer-first” business so the customer experience is an important part of their service.
How do you to switch to Sky?
It is incredibly easy to switch with Sky. If you want to switch remotely without an engineer visiting, this is possible in most cases.
Alternately Sky’s Switch Squad will keep you connected to your current provider and make the switch over as seamless as possible.
Ready – The new activation date will be agreed once your broadband has been select and Sky will send out your hub.
Steady – Sky will take care of the leg work by calling your current provider and cancelling your contract.
Go – Unbox and plug in your new hub, and put your old one away or in the bin.
Switching for Virgin Media Customers
Depending on the broadband you may need an engineer but Sky will let you know about this and will arrange for the engineer to come out to set it up.
In addition to this, you will need to cancel your Virgin Media contact. Next, with the end date, tell Sky and they will aim to get the activation of your Sky lined up as close to the end date as possible and send you hub to you in the post.
When the date is up, plug in your Sky Hub and away you go. If you experience any difficulties, use the number in this post to reach out to their helpline.

How does Sky Broadband Superfast calculate internet speeds
The speed you receive will not be the same throughout the day so please bear this mind when using the internet and making your decision. The speeds you get to your address will be estimated speeds based on the speeds your broadband line can support at peak times. As we know, peak times are between 8pm – 10pm. This is looked at between your Sky Hub and the internet. The quoted minimum download speed which is guaranteed is when your download speed is at it’s complete lowest speed that you would receive on your broadband during peak times. Therefore this has been calculated by looking at other customers speeds that have a similar length of line and other aspects to your connect and then take into consideration any other things that may cause congestion at peak-times from the Sky Hub to the internet, also known as your throughput speed.
What can impact your connection speeds
There are plenty of factors that come into play here, these can include:
- the wiring in your home
- the No. of Sky customers on the network or on the same website at anytime
- the No. of devices connected to the wireless connection
- the device(s) set up
- the No. of applications being used
Depending on the time of day or during peak-times, speeds can be different. This is due to the amount of traffic on certain sites. There may be a popular football team playing in a championship match, a site showing this may be used by multiple Sky customers so will be slow.
How does Sky Broadband Superfast make sure they get the absolute best broadband experience for their customer?
In the first 10 days, when your broadband is active/online, Sky will check and test the line to make sure optimal speeds are consistent. While they are doing this you may see some speed flux, it is totally normal for this to happen and this is done to make sure the line is strong and Sky can deliver on the promise they have made their customers and they will keep monitoring this as long as you are a Sky customer.
